Volunteer Opportunities at the MaST Center

Do you have an interest in the marine environment?
Do you enjoy working with people and around animals?...
Then becoming a volunteer at the MaST Center is perfect for you!

Volunteers play a crucial role at the MaST Center. Projects throughout the facility are made possible because of their dedication and support. Volunteers help enhance the local community through education and environmental awareness, while working to accomplish our goals of research, education and general improvement of the Puget Sound.

Volunteers DO NOT need experience to join any of our teams!

ALL prospective volunteers must attend a New Volunteer Orientation before starting. New Volunteer Orientation is every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10-12.

Individuals must be 14+ years old to participate.
10-13 year olds may participate with a parent/guardian present.
All training will be offered on site.

New Volunteer Orientation:

Welcome!

It is required that all new Discovery Day volunteers attend a New Volunteer Orientation.
Orientations take place from 10am-12pm on the 3rd Saturday of each month (excluding December). RSVP for orientation by email is encouraged.

During orientations present members will learn about the different volunteer opportunities at the MaST Center and how to get involved. They will also have the opportunity to observe current volunteers at their stations before receiving a guided tour of the facility. At the end of the orientation, those members who are still interested in becoming a volunteer will fill out required paperwork and learn more about our online volunteer scheduling program, Volgistics.

Upon completing orientation and Volgistics registration, new volunteers must complete at least two Job Shadow Shifts of the volunteer team they are planning to join. Within two weeks of paperwork submission, volunteers will receive a login for our online education program, Canvas, to begin working their way up the Food Chain Challenge.

Once a volunteer has completed all of the above steps, they are considered "formal volunteer" and may resume their volunteer duties at the MaST Center as such.
